ZOOLABO dental lab serves dentists by crafting custom dental crowns and prosthetics.
The CEO wanted to digitise the dental lab to streamline daily operations and to boost crown order volume and show investors that the model could scale profitably. Multiple labs were planned across India, and the digital system had to be ready to support them.
Business Objective
I spend a whole day inside the lab, observing day-to-day work of lab operator and spoke to 10 dentists who’ve been ordering crown from us
“Most requests come with missing or unclear crown details.”
“I have no clue what’s urgent, so I prioritize whoever keeps calling me the most.”
- Lab Operator
“If the crown doesn’t fit, we lose days and the patient gets angry”
“We often have to keep chasing the lab to know when the crown will be delivered”
- Dentist
We saw that 75% of cases required operators to ping dentists on WhatsApp asking for missing info things like pontic, photos of the patient’s tooth, or price clarifications. And all of that back-and-forth pulled operators away from their actual job, printing accurate crowns.
We decided to improve how doctors submit crown requests since this had greater downstream impact. Earlier they used to hand out a small sheet of paper along with the teeth impression consisting of basic details

I realised the doctors were naturally thinking in terms of patients and cases, not crown categories, so we made the form patient-first
“I have three pending cases today two bridges for Mr.Gupta and one crown I need to order for Vikas”
“So there’s this patient named Vikas who needs a crown on the upper left molar…”
I also changed how doctors interacted with the UI. Instead of making them choose tooth numbers from a dropdown.
I designed a visual SVG of a teeth structure - doctors could click directly on the tooth where the crown or bridge was needed.
This felt less like a form. More like a patient chart.
